Scandi style obsessed

It comes as no surprise that I may be obsessed with Scandinavian design, simplicity and minimalism in my interior decorating aesthetics too. After all, I am Danish.

But being a minimalist (in the making) that has a particularly huge penchant for being sentimental - it's at times a struggle to limit myself when choosing what to keep and display in my home.

While family photos and travel momentos are still to be found - it has been drastically reduced within the last few years. (Just see the instagram photos in my feed called #home and #home2).

I love being reminded of how wonderful my friends and family are, and how incredibly lucky I am, that I can travel and experience as many interesting and wonderful things as I do. But that being said - a quiet hour with meditation and contemplation will bring back exactly the same warm and fuzzy feelings - perhaps even more so!

So tidy that sh*t up!

Scandi style is minimalism, but with "hygge". That all encompassing word, that has finally been added to the English dictionary. It is essential for us Nordics living in the dark of winter and blooming in the bright and light summer. Painting all walls white, keeping surfaces clean and clear and using candles and side table lamps all over the place, is the only way to ensure that we take advantage of the light, all year round.

A newer, Warm Scandinavian interior decorating style has emerged within the last year or two, with pale dusty rose and matte bottle greens being at the center of this trend. While I see the charm it has, it is still too colorful for me. I am at best a black-grey-white kind of gal, but my interior should be preferably all white.

I haven't achieved this super minimalistic all white, sleek and sparse interior yet. But I'm in the process - so far I'm as "colorful" as my wardrobe: yep, you guessed it - black, white and grey. (Read this post for more).

Some of my favorite designers include classics like Arne Jacobsen, Poul Kjærholm, Poul Henningsen and all the other great danish icons. But check out someone like Niels Gammelgaard that designed some of the coolest IKEA furniture ever - in my humble opinion. The Ted Net Chair (I used to own 2, but foolishly gave them away about 10 years ago) is a staple that will be added to my home again! The MOMENT sofa and dining table is just dreamy, and you bet ya I'll be finding a perfect spot for them in my future!

But Scandinavian style is not about adding more, rather it is about selecting the exact thing that brings joy and gratefulness every time you look at it, and so is being a minimalist. So for now, I will be content with making my mood-boards on pinterest and appreciating the beauty of simple design.
